A Path Forward for Preserving and Enhancing the Stony Run

The Lower Stony Run Strategic Plan is a community-driven master planning effort to provide a long-term vision to protect and enhance the beloved Stony Run Walking Path, the Stony Run stream valley, and its associated park spaces. Growing from the successful Upper Stony Run Strategic Plan, completed in 2019, this targeted plan is looking to identify improvements from Overhill Road to the north to 29th Street and the Jones Falls Trailhead/Druid Hill Park at Wyman Park Drive to the south.

The Lower Stony Run Strategic Plan was initiated by the Friends of Stony Run as a public effort to create an INCLUSIVE AND FORWARD-THINKING VISION for Stony Run and identify a FRAMEWORK FOR ENHANCEMENTS—from developing planting strategies for key areas to identifying improvements and special opportunities.
  • Build upon Upper Stony Run Strategic Plan (Northern Parkway to Overhill Road/University Parkway) sponsored by Roland Park Community Foundation
  • Prepare companion document for the Lower Stony Run (mostly Wyman Park)
  • Wyman Park is only major park without a master plan- framework is needed to guide city and volunteer projects
  • Important for Wyman Park master plan to be in context of the overall Stony Run Park

What They're Saying

about the 2019 Upper Stony Run Strategic Plan

Picture

City Department of Planning

"In terms of a precedent, this is an absolutely stunningly produced plan that is just gorgeous. And I really complement everyone involved in that. And that certainly sets a high example--for not only other communities to shoot for but the City to shoot for, frankly. But, you have kept us apprised along the way and, certainly, with your own steering committee and all the involvement from the adjoining neighborhoods it’s very clear how much support there is for this approach. So, congratulations on that."
Tom Stosur, February 2018 Planning Commission
The Lower Stony Run Strategic Plan (from Overhill and Linkwood Roads above University Parkway to Falls Road and Druid Hill Park at the south) will build upon the Upper Stony Run Strategic Plan (Northern Parkway to University Parkway) completed in 2018.
